Hodge Podge Movie Reviews

Lets see.. I just finished watching Harrison Ford's The Fugitive. I can't believe its still a fun piece of work, even after 10 years.

Been watching a lot of movies lately. Bourne Supremacy, Girl with a Pearl Earring, Napoleon Dynamite, Amelie from Montmartre , Gladiator, Save the Last Dance, The Prince and Me. Just your usual hodpodge selection of movies. Please don't watch the last two, they're passable at best (at least for toddlers). I watched it, one eye closed, hoping to spare myself from the rest of the movie, while the other open, hoping that I'll still get my money's worth, before the curtain falls. I think I would've fared better if I just slept through both of them.

Girl with a Pearl Earring is pretty good. Its interesting, but comes a bit muddled in the middle. You start wondering, is there a point to all this? Is it really THAT obscene? well, of course, this is coming from me. I probably have no idea, but maybe the picture that Vermeer painter is obscene, at least for their time period. A good watchable movie. I'd like to see it again. But probably just one more time.

Bourne Supremacy is still as ass kicking as the first one. I'm a bit disappointed though, there are a couple of scenes where the movie just undrapes itself of its camouflage as a movie, with obvious plots that can be predicted, and what-are-the-bad-guys-doing-isnt-it-so-obvious-already type of storyline. But the editing and soundtrack was as great as ever. Despite the disappointments, I'll be looking forward for the last installment.

Gladiator is old news. Those hairs of mine still stand up from my skin when I hear Russell Crowe mutter out

...My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius, Commandor of the Northern Armies, faithful and loyal servant to the true emperor Marcus Arelius, husband to a murdered wife, father to a murdered son, and i will have my revenge, in this life or the next..

Pretty nice proclaiming there :)

I'm still gushing for Napoleon Dynamite. Nice soundtrack, nice editing, nice acting, nice cinematography. Absolutely recommended. For those who were and still are entrapped in the world of dragons, nunchucks, bowstaffs and a wicked 80/90s setting and music, this film is a must see. Its on a limited release in the States, so you might have some problems getting a copy.

Amelie from Montmartre is the classic fairytale in a wicked, twisted sense of modern times, type of movie. Can be a feel good movie, can be a fantasy movie, can be a romance movie, can be a comedy movie. Its very well made, and I think I'd still probably enjoy the same movie 20 years from now.

Wow, if you're still reading this amateur's review, I bow to you. You've probably been wondering why I'm even reviewing movies from X years ago. The reason is.. well, nothing. I just felt like it.

"I told you, I spent it in Alaska hunting wolverines!"

Divide and Conquer

I spent my day doing exactly just that: dividing and conquering. To be frank, Its just mass murder, and hell of a bloody business. Im still doing it now, as I write the day's events in here.

Yes, its supposed to make things easier, but right now it seems a lot harder than it sounds. Im still whacking away. Clunk clunk. It would have been a more pleasurable experience if I were conquering lands. I'd get people's taxes, their land, their food (ooohh food glorious food!) But no, sadly, no lands in sight. Heck, I'd even take chess.

Instead, im getting my hands bloodied with work. If i can just pull out a screwdriver and hammer and a pick-axe, then everything would be swell. I can just tear everything apart. Or throw work out of the window, down 36 floors of pure adventurous thrill, a loud clanker and sweet sound of bolts and nuts as the server hits the hard concrete and (im hoping a) wet floor. Whoops, there goes your production system.

Now if , at the moment, someone said VLDB partitioning was smooth sailing, I would then say that it's a lie. And I'll throw you in a heave ho for good measure too. You'll definitely feel the thrill of a 36 floor drop to the ground. Whoops, there goes your 9 lives. I hope you believe in reincarnation.

Explanation of sorts

I think I should at least have give an explanation on my blog title, cause its only a matter of time before I start forgetting reasons why I do certain things. Poor short term memory perhaps, but its probably not a fault of mine. Most attribute it to genetics. That must be it. I was reading "Seven Habit of Highly Effective People" just a few hours ago and it says im highly reactive. WHAT? me reactive? that's absurd. Who says? :)

Where was I? oh. yes, the title.

Well, if you must know, its the first thing that came to mind. Mostly first thing that comes to my mind are figments of my imagination. I cant really think of any real objects to ground myself, so i end up with things that arent there. sort of.

Why Sea Dragons? Why Ents? And most absurdly, why Nobel Peace Prize Winners?

If it helps any, there's a small statue of a Sea Turtle Dragon in front of me. Painted in gold (not real gold ok!) I think I have a sort of fixation with turtles. As for Ents, well, there's only one place you can find Ents, and that's in Middle Earth. That should say something about my interests with that particular item. As for Nobel Peace Prize Winners...

Well, that's another story. :) I think I'll just have my boyfriend remind me that. Its probably as fantastical as the other two when its considered an aspiration. :D

First Entry

This is my first blog entry.

Hmmm ... Maybe I should have placed in "testing, testing, 1,2,3..." instead.
